Rural broadband woes

We provide IT services to a client who operates a retail business in Alresford. In addition to this they also have a café on site for use by their customers.

Internet connectivity is a critical component for their business and is used for tasks such as:

  • Sending and receiving email
  • Taking card payments
  • Remote access
  • VoIP
  • Wi-Fi for customers

Owing to the rural location of their building they have been struggling with slow broadband for many years, and with BT Infinity over a year away they asked us if we could provide a solution.

In order to resolve this problem we used link aggregation. This involved taking multiple broadband connections and combining them in parallel to make a single high-bandwidth data path.

This simple but effective update to their IT infrastructure provided a much needed boost to their connectivity.

In addition, the extra broadband connection allows for failover meaning that should one connection go down, the other will continue to operate.
